ADAPTABILITY IN A CHANGING MARITIME LANDSCAPE – THE KEY THEME AT THE INTERNATIONAL NAVAL ENGINEERING CONFERENCE AT IMDEX ASIA 2015
SINGAPORE, 7 April 2015 – IMDEX Asia 2015, Asia Pacific’s premier maritime defence show, will once again play host to the Asian edition of the International Naval Engineering Conference and Exhibition (INEC@IMDEX Asia). The conference, to be held at Changi Exhibition Centre from 20 – 21 May 2015, will be attended by the world’s leading industry players and top naval officials. It is organised by Experia Events, in association with the Institute of Marine Engineering Science and Technology (IMarEST), and supported by the Defence Science and Technology Agency (DSTA) and Republic of Singapore Navy (RSN).
Established in the UK in the early 1990s, INEC has remained one of the world’s leading forums to discuss naval technology and engineering issues. The inaugural INEC@IMDEX Asia was held in May 2013 and attracted more than 220 delegates from 15 countries. This year, the conference will focus on the theme ‘Adapt and Transform – Flexible Capability in an Uncertain Environment’, raising issues facing the Asia Pacific region. The conference, comprising a plenary and concurrent workshops, will place emphasis on the following areas:
Please visit www.imarest.org/events-courses/events-conferences/inec/inec-asia-2015 for conference programme updates.
- Multiplying Effect addressing network-centric operations, cooperative engagement, smart weapons, unmanned vehicles and operations other than war
- Flexible Platforms covering modularity, adaptable and intelligent systems, automation and flexible manning and sustainability
- Underwater Technology including increasing submarine effectiveness, UUVs, mine countermeasures and acoustic management
- Effective Support Solutions such as reducing the cost of ownership, rapid re-rolling, concurrent engineering, using the benefits of modularity and supply solutions
INEC@IMDEX Asia offers a platform where representatives from navies, commercial and military ship operators, designers, shipbuilders, manufacturers, defence-related organisations and academia can come together to discuss these new industry challenges and developments, and develop new ideas and solutions to tackle these concerns.
MG (NS) Ng Chee Khern, Permanent Secretary (Defence Development), MINDEF will be giving the keynote address. Speakers at the plenary will include BGen Kevin Killea, Commanding General, US Marine Corps Warfighting Lab, Mr Tan Peng Yam, Chief Executive of DSTA and RADM Ruurd Lutje Schipholt, Patron of INEC Europe, IMarEST. Delivering the welcome address will be ME7 Low Yong Joo, Head of Naval Logistics, RSN and Mr David Loosley, Chief Executive of IMarEST. This year’s conference will also feature a slew of technical papers from major industry companies such as Rolls-Royce, Elbit, Elettronica S.p.A, Thyssenkrupp and Thales.
“The challenges in the maritime industry are evolving at a rapid pace. This makes it even more relevant for stakeholders to keep abreast of technological innovations and advancements so that they can respond ahead of the curve. Naval technology, especially, has made significant developments, which are critical to shaping the industry, so we are excited to collaborate with IMarEST to bring INEC to Asia for the second time. We believe INEC@IMDEX Asia 2015 is a catalyst to discuss how advancements in technology can play a role in this increasingly unpredictable landscape and propel the naval engineering industry forward,” said Mr Leck Chet Lam, Managing Director of Experia Events. “IMDEX Asia is proud to host this prestigious Asian edition of INEC and we look forward to many more years of fruitful partnership.”
According to Mr David Loosley, Chief Executive, IMarEST, “As naval expenditure and investments increase in the Asia Pacific region, we are confident that INEC@IMDEX Asia will be the platform that the industry looks towards to synthesise ideas, spark collaboration and drive development of affordable solutions to meet the maritime challenges of the 21st century.”
ME7 Loke Yong, (Head, Total System Group, NLD RSN), Co-Chairman of the Technical Programme Advisory Committee, Republic of Singapore Navy said, “We are thrilled that INEC will once again be held in Singapore at IMDEX Asia 2015. This is an excellent opportunity for international delegates, technology heads and engineers to exchange new ideas and take the technology discussions into real-world applications. The Republic of Singapore Navy is pleased to be supporting this international technology conference.”
IMDEX Asia 2015 will be held from 19 – 21 May 2015 at the Changi Exhibition Centre in Singapore, and is organised by Experia Events with the support of the Republic of Singapore Navy, the Defence Science and Technology Agency (DSTA), the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore, the ReCAAP Information Sharing Centre and the Singapore Exhibition & Convention Bureau. The show will welcome new exhibitors such as Ametek, Kevin Hughes, KM Kinley, Microflown Maritime, Qinetiq, Strategic Marine and Teho Ropes along with returning major industry players Damen Naval, Elbit, General Dynamics Canada, Israel Aerospace Industries and ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems.
